Ménage Détroit -
Winner of the Michigan Film Festival Competition
Audience Choice - Mitten Movie Project - April 2011
Background on Ménage Détroit - When I heard about this fest and started discussing my ideas with Carl and Gavin (Producer and DP/Editor, respectively), we thought we had a great concept. The original premise was to tell the story of a young woman that loses her "purity" to a guy that works at the local soda bottling plant (the short was to be called "Pop," which is both a colloquialism and a euphemism). However, since the MI Film Festival takes place in the heart of Michigan Conservative country known as Grand Rapids, we quickly decided against anything so risqué. Instead, we produced a short that features the music of The Hard Lessons, a drunken threesome, sex toys and the "f" bomb.
And we still won.
Oh my, now the governor elect will really be against the film tax incentive. Sorry Hollywood...
*Contrary to popular belief, DETROIT is pronounced DAH-TWA*
